Fingerprinting Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I verify the status of my application once fingerprints have been sent for submission?

A: Contact Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services e-mail at civilnps@rcmp-grc.gc.ca and provide the following information:

  • Your full name and date of birth
  • The date and the reason for the application
  • Whether the RCMP processing fee was included (if applicable)

Q: Can I submit my application or receive the results by phone, facsimile or
e-mail?

A: No. Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services (CFSS) conducts criminal record checks based on comparison of original fingerprint forms. Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services (CFSS ) cannot perform checks using facsimile copies, photocopies or computer printouts.

Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services (CFSS) is not authorized to release criminal record check information by phone, fax or e-mail since they cannot confirm the identity of the recipient. All certified results are based on the finger print form and returned by mail to the applicant.

Q:  Will I get my results within 10 days of fingerprint submission?

A:  Although electronic fingerprinting and electronic conversion do expedite the initial submission, everyone receives the result by mail.
The 10 day time line is strictly for a “no hit” whereby the results are mailed back.  If it is determined an individual has a “hit,” meaning possible convictions, it is then significantly longer, up to 120 days for the result to be mailed to the applicant. Civil Fingerprinting Screening Services do not utilize a courier service.

Q: How long does finger printing take?

A: It can take as little as 10-20 minutes for ink and roll of prints.
